Warwick business becomes latest firm to sign up to the 2021 Club ahead of year in the spotlight.
Automotive giant Contechs has become the latest business to give its backing to the city of Coventry as it gears up for one of the biggest years in its history.
The Warwick-based engineering, design and recruitment firm has joined the illustrious 2021 Club to help celebrate and showcase the region’s rich automotive heritage.
It comes after Coventry won the battle to be named the UK City of Culture 2021 – beating off tough competition from Paisley, Stoke, Sunderland and Swansea to win the prestigious national title.
Contechs’ managing director Peter Jarvis has branded the win as ‘exciting for Coventry and Warwickshire as a whole’ and believes the automotive industry can play a key role in showcasing what the city has to offer.
“This is a fantastic initiative and we’re so proud to support and be a part of this historic event,” added Peter. “The UK City of Culture is about highlighting the many positives in the region and the automotive sector is one of the many triumphs we should be shouting about.
“At Contechs we are immensely proud to be a part of this thriving sector and we are incredibly proud to be in heart of Warwickshire. We are very passionate about supporting the local community and we believe it is incredibly important that we, as a major employer, provide the region with a lasting legacy – therefore it is fitting that Contechs becomes the newest member of the 2021 Club.
“Winning the City of Culture 2021 will transform Coventry and further improve the reputation of this thriving city not just within the Coventry boundaries, but for Warwickshire as a whole. This win will help create more jobs, attract further investment to the region and also help boost the economy through tourism – and of course not forgetting it will be an incredible year of cultural celebration.”
Contechs is already a major player in the local community after adopting Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice – the Midlands’ only dedicated facility for babies and young children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses – as its chosen charity. Over the years Contechs has helped raise more than £130,000 for the impressive facility.
And not only is the company supporting Zoe’s Place, but Peter has taken on the role of chairman of the Zoe’s Place Business Group – a team of business and community leaders from across Coventry and Warwickshire who joined forces in 2015 to help the coffers of the city to help keep its doors open 24/7.
Its ongoing support for the region secured Contechs a highly commended in last year’s Midlands Business Awards for the Midlands Corporate Commitment to the Community accolade.
Peter added: “We feel it’s important that Contechs does all it can to support organisations and charities such as Zoe’s Place, which is an incredible facility and a great cause. We believe Contechs is more than just a business and an employer, it is a part of the local community and it’s vital that we all pull together to make the region the very best it can be.
“We are passionate about everything we do and we continuously strive for excellence, both in the workplace and within the community.”
And that passion has paid off for Contechs, after the business enjoyed a phenomenal two years of continuous growth, thanks to a number of new contract wins.
The firm recently trebled the size of its dedicated trimming facility and invested hundreds of thousands of pounds in state-of-the-art equipment and processes to improve productivity, streamline operations as well as boost accuracy and efficiency.
Last year, bosses announced its third recruitment campaign, with the firm doubling its workforce in just 18 months to more than 1,000 employees as well as significantly expanding its site in the Budbrook Industrial Estate.
Peter said: “We have enjoyed incredible the last two years in business and we are thrilled to be once again, giving something back to the community. We are very excited for 2021 and look forward to sharing with the rest of the country all that we love about this incredible region.”
